They’re highly motivated to protect their own and save face on the issue. These aren’t independent watchdogs or unaffiliated investigative branches. They hired their attorneys to write a report backing their President and that is exactly how it reads. The report extols President Crockett, takes a few cheap shots at Maile, and dismisses the student athlete’s testimonies.
By their own interviews they found that “Twenty six of the thirty student athletes interviewed recalled references by Pres. Cockett about either hiring a coach who is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints or Coach Maile’s membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Fifteen of those student athletes recalled an express or implied concern about how Coach Maile’s religious affiliation would impact recruiting.” As I opined, this should absolutely never have come up in the first place.
Basically, it’s Hartwell’s and Cockett’s word against 26 student athletes. And the report essentially tells us to just trust Cockett and Hartwell. Sorry, I’m not buying what they’re selling.
