Society got coarser or the internet was created and now you get to see it? Or maybe you stopped progressing as most old people tend to do. Obviously using the F word shouldn't be used in the cherry picked context you selected, but swearing really shouldn't be a big deal. Saying dang, freak, shoot are just off-shoots of the real word, and have the same meaning, and we just decided to deem them as not being inappropriate.
