Heaps was not a football player and the team knew it. Nelson was a gamer. He
saved the program that day. BYU lost to USU the previous season. We seemed hopelessly out of this one in Provo. Both fees courtesy of Jske Heaps.

And amazingly a whole thread of fans bagging on Nelson and thinking what could have been with Heaps. Nothing against Heaps personally, but he was beaten out by a freshman at Kansas and again at Miami after leaving BYU and leaving Kansas. Practiced with some NFL teams, but never made the roster. This showed what could have been - absolutely nothing.

Some of us spotted the problem right from the beginning. Entitled, over-confident, alienated teammates, practiced with a tutor, not with the twam offseason. When game time came, it quickly became apparent. He was afraid of contact.

Week 2 at AFA. Threw pick 6 and just stood there and watched the guy run past him. In another game he went into near fetal position anticipating a hit - but did not even get hit. The bad snap vs Utah where he was afraid to dive on it.
