But Sarkisian also went 14-1 and was the leader of what may have actually been BYUs best team all time. The 1996 cougs are at least in that conversation. In rivalry games rivals should be able to take down their rivals occasionally even if they are a better program. Taysom was capable of beating Utah and got close. But yeah i would look at his career differently had he beaten Utah. Beating utah matters. Moving forward I think it will be hard to consider any of our QBS all time greats if they can't beat Utah.
Doman beat Utah a couple times prior to them having Urban Meyer transforming them into a monster. But he beat them twice and his senior year BYU was an offensive Juggernaut. At the end of the day those memories of fourth quarter drives to beat Utah stand out. And to me they push him over Hill when you combine those exciting utah wins with the season he put together his senior year. Taysom kept flaming out whether it be by injury or coaching change. If he had just been allowed to stay healthy...no question in my mind he beats utah once and ends up a top ten all time coug qb. Even with the injuries hes just outside the top ten for me. Thats a credit to him and the excitement those Texas wins provided.
