Optimists talk about vaccine in 12-18 months. Realists correctly point out that vaccines have never been done that fast and point to Mumps taking 4 years and others taking longer.

Everyone is forgetting that the goal of social distancing is to flatten the curve enough to keep the medical system from collapsing - it was not to get infections to Zero or shelter at home until a vaccine comes.

Every healthy person that gets Covid without exposing elderly or frail individuals is helping build the only solution that is going to work.

Many are hoping that antibody testing will show that we already have herd immunity. That almost certainly is not true. This has been tested recently in Germany in a town with a big outbreak. They have the antibody test. Only 15% of the population was infected. Nowhere near the 70% needed for herd immunity. On the positive side - death rate is 0.37%. Higher than flu but nowhere near as deadly as originally thought.
