I guess you'v never been cleated with spike turning two, or barreled over at

home plate, or hit by a wild pitch fast ball. Baseball is indeed a contact sport and with bats, hard balls, spiked shoes, has the potential to be extremely dangerous, similar to hockey. That's why in these two sports you see more unwritten rules. It about protecting the players and the game.
