Whenever there are tryouts on the hs and college level
And it comes down to final cuts (like the remaining 2-3 spots) coaches usually (if they’re decent human beings) have conversations with the individuals.
But that only happens at finals cuts, not first or second rounds of cuts when the general tryout population doesn’t make it
