I don’t buy the “Mangum doesn’t get the offense” line. Second
I wanted to see what he could do while acknowledging the coaches knew more than I did. When you are certain something will not work, wanting to give something else a chance, just to see, isn’t irrational at all.

It’s like watching the defense let people move methodically down Field all game long and seeing the look from the defense not change. Why not mix in more blitzes? The DBs might get beat? They’re getting beaten anyway. Why not mix it up? If it fails, you aren’t any worse off.

And maybe it wouldn’t have worked with Mangum last year. But having wanted to see during the UCLA game when there was a zero percent chance we were going to win was not remotely irrational. Again, if you’re looking at guaranteed failure, trying something else might not work but it might be worth a try.
