USC ends up as 13-0 P12 champs and is the presumptive #1. OU is 11-1 (lost at tOSU) but the B12 stupidly pits them in a rematch against Ok State in CCG and OU loses. Now both Ok St and OSU are 11-2…neither make CFP. Glorious! In a gift from heaven, a 10-2 Wisc upsets 11-1 PSU in B1G title game essentially securing BYU’s spot in CFP due to their victory over them at LES. An 11-1 Bama continues to roll (no pun intended) in an underwhelming SEC, and they win the CCG. An 11-1 FSU secures ACC bid by outlasting Clem and then throttling VT in ACC CG. Many Ute fans on twitter like to pretend the CFP only felt comfortable letting a “mid-major” like BYU make the CFP because of the 3 other powerhouse, blue-blood programs in it…whatever makes you sleep better at night. Others believe it is a ploy by the CFP committee to act benevolent in letting a non-P5 team in like BYU but then pitting them against one of the most power CFP’s ever. In any event, the CFP drops the Cougs to #4, in what is mostly seen as a ratings boost to create a “west coast” and “east coast” semi-finals.
