You're missing my point. It's not all about recruiting. With every coach you get

a mixed bag of strengths and weaknesses. It's apparent from the stats I've seen that Crowton was a better recruiter than Bronco, but Bronco has been a much better coach overall. Even in the last few years, with tougher schedules than Crowton faced, Bronco has had consistently better W-L records, with the recruits he himself got.
