RE: The jury is still out on Crowton
That's all I'm saying.

He had a really great first season against an unbelievalby weak schedule. One of the weakest I've ever seen BYU play.

There is simply no excuse to ever go 2-5 in the MWC. EVER!

His recruiting has been decent, but not outstanding. Yes he's had outstanding recruiting classes, but a lot of those kids would have come to BYU under Lavell also. BYU offered Olson a scholarship before anybody else had even heard of him. Mohetau was BYU bound, period.

Somebody said that Lavell didn't get all the top LDS talent. Neither has Crowton. He missed on Ngata, the kid who went to Tennessee and the Florida OL.

Finally, I'm sick of the argument, "Wait until Crowton gets his own recruits before you judge him." Sorry, that's the argument used when a coach takes over a losing program. Crowton took over a winning program and the five previous recruiting classes were the best BYU has ever had.

Now having trashed Crowton, let me praise him. I think he has assembled a great coaching staff. I'm very impressed with the expectations he has for the team, the coaches and himself. He's enthusiastic and likeable. The conditioning program finally puts BYU on par with other big time programs.

Finally, like many of you, I think he will be successful. I think (I hope) he learned from last year and won't repeat the mistakes that doomed the season. I see good things for BYU in the future under Crowton. But I also have this gnawing feeling in my gut that maybe he'll be a bust.
