Usually the provider of the insurance on the other car gives you a week or so (maybe the 14 days mentioned by HeismanTy)
to get coverage where the insurance provider provides identical coverage as the other vehicle you own while you take the week or so to inform them of the new car. Whoever this is will need to call that insurance provider and hopefully get it worked out with them by paying for the coverage and letting them know of the accident/file a claim. If there is no current insurance provider with the driver, I don't know what you'll do.
