I think the logic is the continuity with teammates prevents TOs, and experience
reading defenses is really valuable. Too many focus on a QB's arm strength or speed with their legs and not what's happening between the ears. And it's tough to come in cold and read defenses.
But in this case, I agree with you ... Gerry has lots of game experience. He could have probably come in just fine.
