my grandpa was assigned to teach biology/anatomy and other training for new Navy Corpsmen going over to the Pacific theater.
as far as WWII duty stations it was a pretty cushy job. it was so safe that he was allowed to have his family come live with him and my dad was born in 1945 right as the war ended. grandpa got lucky in that they were going to make him a submarine officer, but found out he was red/green colorblind. that eyesight defect probably saved his life as the death rate for submariners was very high.
