You just don't make a unilateral decision and tell everyone to fund it.

I'm a stickler for boundaries on this one. I would respond, "I'm happy to host, but since we didn't agree to an Airbnb , we won't be helping to fund one. Or hats."

But that might make me unpopular I suppose with some parents.
