but let's not over-value him. His defensive assignments versus even lowly Wyoming are pretty pedestrian (as well as he's been doing his part). He's not up at the top of the perimeter. Nor is he the sorta player who gives you standout team defense like a Catchings, Keba, Richie, or Mag. But not to slight him — his perimeter D has been much more reliable than Richie (granted, w an easier assignment), & he's been very physical in guarding our baseline.
Yes, it was nice to see Knell — besides hitting a lot of points for himself — generate some points for himself against lowly Wyoming as well. Again, let's not overdo it w his value in that department, though. Unlike a Baker — or even like Hall — he's not gonna be able to do that much at all against Big 12 personnel. And not anywhere near the level of Egor — or Catchings as he comes into his own & is tasked & trusted with more.
And that's okay. We won't need him to do that. We will need him to continue to hit the open shots, though. And his quick release should continue make him lethal at that level of play as well.
