Consider competitive golf. I found the parents there to be reasonable/supportive of all golfers. It probably has

something to do with the nature of the sports? The best/better players in football/basketball are up for debate. The scorecards at the end of a golf match clearly determine who was best that tournament.

AFWIW... junior golf is less expense than travel soccer (unless/until you get into the AJGA network and start playing all over the country).
