for 15+ years. Realize that BYU will never be cutthroat enough to do in football what it takes to be elite. We don't fire people for not being great. As long as they are good enough, there is very little heat under their seat. Things are also more difficult with the honor code.
Sports and winning are not the powers that be's highest priority. First comes the development on and off the field of the athlete. Second comes the image and brand of the church and school. Wins come in as the third priority. We cannot lower our standards. if that means being a little bit worse at sports, so be it. And we the fans are not in charge. And the brethren are not going to change. Nor should they. It's either accept it, or find a new team.
I accept BYU for what it is. Makes things much easier. And life is much happier when you can have all the appreciation and joy when we do well, while at the same time not being too bent out of shape with the losses.
BYU is a good team, and we should expect to be top 40 every year. Every decade or so we will get a couple great game changing kids that give us a chance to have a special 96 type year. And those seasons will be awesome. But that is not who we are year in year out.
If you told me we would have at least 6 wins and beat yewtah this year, I would have been thrilled. Everything else is just gravy. This is one of those great every 10-15 year type seasons previously mentioned. Sit back and enjoy.
