I'm all for finding diamonds in the rough, but deciding that you're just smarter than every other talent evaluator
is a good way to end up without a job.
For as long as ARod has been the OC, BYU doesn't beat top programs for QB recruits. We used to, and now we don't.
ARod has taken the Tuiaki approach to QB recruiting. Tuiaki got false signals with guys like Khyris that it was going to work out for him. I hope ARod doesn't take the wrong lesson from Jake.
Guys like Jake Retzlaff are the exception, not the rule. When you take a flyer on a guy and it works out, you celebrate beating the odds. You don't go all-in on the take-a-flyer guys.
