I only attended one game in person last year and was sitting on the goal line when the QB tossed that pick-six for the go-ahead score and essentially gave that game away also. There was ZERO reason in my arm-chair opinion to have a throw option on that play just like there was zero reason to have a throw option at first and goal from the 5 at the end of the first half VS. KU. Then, we get to 1st and 15 and I am totally with you. 1st or 2nd down mighta-coulda been an attempt to throw a low slant to sideline and/or just try to line up at least 3 wide or 2 wides and a tight end and chuck the ball to the back corner of the end zone on one side or the other. After 1st and 2nd downs getting almost nowhere on the run plus that dumb penalty it looked like BYU had already LOST and I was pretty sure they were done at that point having lost every bit of momentum energy they had from roaring down the field to get that 1st down in the Red Zone. BYU couches made KU look genius for their pooch punt... which was a great play call but was only one element of why this loss happened. Poor execution on offense has been way too frequent for a this team and part of that was they did not need to be elite when the D was turning over the opponent 2-3 times in the first 2 or 3 quarters. Well BYU lost the turnover battle and choked on offense and how should anyone be terribly surprised by that? Overrated? Ya as per the evidence we have seen in at least 3 of the last 4 games that is 100% how this played out.
