Consider that a lot of people on this board defending Trump when he was accused of felonies basically took this same approach.
Yes, he misvalued his properties and that's technically against the law... but it's never enforced for things like that and so charging him there speaks to partisan bias. There wasn't a lot of defense that he DIDN'T do it, but more that he was being treated inconsistently with how others have been treated.
I'm absolutely not trying to turn this into a politics discussion, just pointing out how self-interested we as humans are. When it's "our side" we're very big on 'the law is the law, doesn't matter how it's been done before'.... and whe "our side" is being hurt, we suddenly get real big on precedence.
