None have been from shingle damage. All have been from where the metal flashing transitions to a non shingled surface.

My mother in law did have one that if fixed that was a shingle issue, but pooling was primarily the problem.

But throwing a tarp up there and getting a roofer is probably a good idea if you aren't comfortable identifying those issues.
