Nothing to figure out. Kalani just doesn't want to put them "away big".
He's too invested in the nice guy meme.
Lavelle was a nice guy but that didn't stop him from understanding the importance of playing hard the whole game.
What Kalani does when BYU gets a decent lead just means that the starters end up playing most of the game, thereby denying the backups needed experience.
It's been that way since Kalani became HC.
Can anyone imagining a Kalani coached BYU beating UCLA 59-0 or Wyoming 44-0? I can't.
