What hasn't changed is BYU's top executives willingness to support the new coach and to enable him to be competitive in this Wild West inflationary NIL environment. To do so, they had to get comfortable with massive NIL contracts, as long as the funds were raised by the Athletic Department and did not increase the burden on University general funds.
Definitely represents a big change at BYU but hardly settled before KY came on board. As recently as late April, after KY was on board, key officials were saying, "top players go for about $1M, BYU won't pay that much." Policy changed very rapidly thereafter.
