I just happened to be in Monerosso al Mare in Italy with a room with a balcony overlooking the beach and main road when
a local cathedral did a once-every-20 year ceremony to bring a statue of the Virgin Mary down the hill at midnight and march right under our balcony. We noticed the streets lined with luminaria that day, and that night I heard some commotion outside so I went to the balcony. There I saw all of the luminaria lit, plus hundreds of lit candles floating out in the water. The streets were lined with people and news crews as the statue was carried right below me.
