Really depends on who makes them and how long they are sitting before they get to you. The difference in quality between a fresh fry and a 10 minute old fry is huge. Chick-fil-A, Wendy's, McDonald's, all can be hit or miss on a given day.
But let me expound on the virtues of the crinkle cut fry for a moment. The crinkle means you get more fried surface area for the same basic fry. It gives a better chance at a crispy exterior and a soft inside. It holds sauce better. It definitely is just some frozen fry, but unlike what I do at home, they can deep fry it to perfection. So I'm a fan. I crave the fries with cheese sauce more than the burger. But everyone has their own taste.
