The 2002-2003 Tampa Bay Buccaneers and 2000-2001 Baltimore Ravens would like a word.
Both had average/weak offenses but dominant defenses that created a massive number of turnovers that fed the offense.

Baylor was down by 6 with the ball and had put together some great drives

Turnovers have not really won a single game so it’s a moot point - they have

Against Baylor we couldn’t buy a stop without the last minute turnover

Except for that 4th down stop a few minutes earlier... Also it was 2nd & 20

Yeah Baylor would have been dicey but had it been closer earlier probably

Turnovers have put teams behind and led to short fields

3rd down becomes less relevant if you go for it on 4th down and get a first.

This is why TOP is a dumb metric that doesn’t tell the story and isn’t

All true, but you have to get the turnover “first”….easier said than done.

While I agree, a good defense makes me much more comfortable than a good offense

2 things impact that: an aggressive D trades TOs, sacks, hurries for higher 3rd

Hopefully the defense gets fewer TOs so the offense can get a chance to improve
