Defensive players are typically taught that between the hashes they’re supposed
to fall on it and outside the hashes they’re supposed to position for scoop and score.
In Taggarts’s case multiple coaches have lamented that he didn’t sneak a peak. Circumstances were such that he could have but he’s been taught that in that part of the field, first priority is to get the ball.
