They split up the scholarships. Everyone on the soccer team at BYU has at least
a partial scholarship (at least that is my understanding). They have 14 full scholarships, but the money equivalent of those 14 scholarships can be divided and different amounts give to all the players on the team. Jen, in the past, wouldn't even consider walk ons. My oldest offered to walk on and play for free but Jen wasn't interested. She didn't do walk ons at all. I don't know if this has changed; but that's how it was 5 years ago when my oldest played (she ended up at USU - as a captain her last two years). This means some girls get a lot more than other girls.

It's my understanding that they still don't have to give scholarships to all 28 players next year; but they now have the option of doing so. They can still take walk ons or give partial scholarships; but they have the option of full scholarships for every rostered player now. I imagine BYU will give full scholarships to everyone.

In addition to scholarships, they have a lot more money to give out this year. I think it has something to do with the lawsuit against the NCAA and having to compensate athletes. At some schools, they get $5,000 in addition to their scholarship and other forms of compensation...like meal cards to local restaurants. It was quite a bit of money that we weren't expecting.
