If you ran a poll today asking me

Would you rather

1. Be on the treadmill of mediocrity, hovering around .500 each year indefinitely
2. Have an ugly season that forces meaningful change and gives higher potential upside

I'd choose option 2. That's true regardless of the coaching staff or how we look in a given season - I'm pretty much always going to want the option with more upside. Note that doesn't mean I WANT either of those responses, just that #2 is better than #1. Of course, being good is clearly preferable to EITHER of those options.

It's like the dumb middle-school "would you rather" asking if I'd rather have to poop out of my hands or have eyes on my butt. I might choose one of those as preferable to the other (I'm going butt-eyes, easy), but it doesn't mean that I'm really secretly desirous of either.
