Aside from the 5 autobids playoff selection is an individual team not conference
selection. It’s just like with March Madness when people mistakenly talk about how many teams the committee will allow from a conference. It’s all about comparing individual teams’ resumes to each other.
Of course there is only 1 projected Big 12 bid. That’s because it’s expected there will only be 1 Big 12 team in the top 11. But if there is a 12-1 BYU, 12-1 Colorado, and 11-1 Iowa St, then of course all 3 would make it. If they are ranked in the top 11, then they are in.
Last year, every P5 team with 1 loss or less was ranked in the top 7. Every P5 team with 2 losses or less was in the top 12.
