I think the Left was disappointed when it wasn't a narrative about how the Right is a bunch of ignoramuses who believe they can take down the Feds, and the Right had already written it off assuming that's what it was going to be.
I think it's a concept that can be successfully done, but learn from the lessons of the remake of Red Dawn. Going overly generic with the politics doesn't work.
