(This is based mostly on the Texas game last year). My recommendation:

track when the kickoff times are announced and make your plan as soon as the time is available. At Texas last year, it was 2 weeks before the game. It would have been nice to have more notice, but 2 weeks or so is enough time to plan a game trip, esp. if you are close by.

I'm sure there will be earlier games. The Southern Illinois game started at 6:00 pm. Missed your chance there already.

We've taken our three year old to late night games. Yes we get home really late, but it's 100 percent worth it.
