I remember during my first transfer in Japan learning that there was more than one way to say "I" (boku, ore, etc.). I would write down as many words as I could that I didn't know in a little booklet. I put down "boku" one day and asked my trainer what it meant. We'd only been taught "watashi" in the MTC so my mind was blown (and it was a bit discouraging, to boot).
