You make the mistake of conflating being hit on the line of scrimmage by
a defense that easily read the play, with being easy to tackle. Davis does NOT go down easily. When he has a hole to run through, he punishes whoever tries to tackle him. His physicality also explains why he's such an effective blocker. No running back on any level is any good when getting hit on his first or second step, and that certainly includes LJ Martin and everyone else we have.

Luke Staley won the Doak Walker award, but he was truly worthless as a runner unless he was given room to accelerate into open space. But if you judged him by how well he ran between the tackles with no big holes, he looked terrible.
