dressed as a police officer. A neighbor had called her house and told her a guy dressed as a cop was going door-to-door but that something seemed off and not to trust him. So when she opened the door she told Ted her husband was home and she'd grab him to check if he had seen any suspicious characters around (I guess that was his line/excuse for going through the neighborhood). He said not to worry that if she hadn't there probably wasn't an issue.

This was told to me by the girl I was out with and was from her mom, so potentially apocryphal, but he was in that area (not far from the U) and does fit his M.O.
