count towards your deductible and out of pocket maximum.
It took me a couple of years to choose to switch from a traditional style health insurance plan to a high deductible plan. But I finally did all the math and found that the high deductible plan was always less expensive. I tried many different scenarios.
The main drivers were the huge savings on monthly premiums, my employer contributed $1000 to my HSA and the fact that medicines counted towards the deductible/max on the high deductible plan but did not on the traditional plan.
We have had a child while on high deductible insurance and dealt with many other medical issues. It has worked well for us. I can no longer verify that it continues to be cheaper because my employer no longer offers traditional health insurance as an option.
