Let's imagine that Utah absolutely destroys Oklahoma St, something like 49-7. And BYU beats Kansas St.  Something like 21-10.  Suddenly the Kansas St / Oklahoma St game isn't as huge a deal.  And BYU would look a lot more interesting. Especially since Baylor would have played Utah as well as anyone at that point. Utah would be the clear conference leader, but with Oklahoma St, Kansas St, Kansas and Arizona all disappointing, the next spot would be WIDE open and BYU a real contender for the spot.

On the other hand, there's a scenario where Oklahoma St beats Utah 34-7, Kansas St beats BYU 28-7, and Baylor somehow loses to Long Island University.  Now it's clear that Kansas St /Okla St is the game of the week and BYU/Baylor is ...not particualrly exciting.
