Median home price by itself means nothing as that doesn't take into account the size of the home you're paying for. Home price only tells half the story. If we could factor in lot sizes as well that would give us an even more well rounded picture.

Price per square footage does take into account home size and I posted a link with that data which you've conveniently ignored. Lower price per square foot means your dollars go a lot further and you get a lot more house. Obviously that's very relevant.

I do completely agree with you that the more expensive states typically do have other natural amenities that explain why they're more expensive. I'm not saying those states shouldn't be more expensive... obviously San Diego is going to be more expensive than Santa Fe New Mexico. I'm just pointing out that Utah is one of the cheaper states in the area
