It will not be sustainable to the program to have the defense be an ongoing lifeboat to the offense.

Offensive skill position players will check out and/or recruiting stagnates.

Defensive players will play a lot more snaps than they should have to, and by the midway point of the conference season, we’ll have significant injury attrition like we saw last year.

We cannot have that level of offensive futility for much longer and still hope to be a credibly competitive program.
