BYU's offense had 8 turnovers in those two games, including 3 INTs and 5 lost fumbles. In those two games, Sark threw about 55% completion rate with 3 INT's and 3 TDs and was sacked 7 times.
Against AFA, Sark's first TD throw was in the third quarter, when BYU was already down 28-0. AFA was playing prevent and coasting to the 38-12 win.
Against UCLA, his first TD throw was in the fourth quarter, with BYU down 23-3. UCLA was playing prevent and coasting to the 23-9 win.
Sark also threw 4 INTs versus Utah that year. Ugh. He threw 2 TDs in the fourth quarter when BYU was down 27-3...when Utah was playing prevent and coasting to a 34-17 win.
I am not saying that Retzlaff will turn into a player like Sark. But, it does make sense to give the guy a break. After 2 games, he's completed 60% of his passes for 9.5 yards per attempt for 4 TDs and 2 INTs. Lots of season left to cheer him on. Give him your positive vibes and encourage the improvement we are going to see in him this year.
