The dead ball era was crazy. Playing with 1 ball the entire game. Even in 1920 when it ended with rule changes they carved out 17 spitballers who were allowed to keep throwing it until they retired.
I hear they used to bang trash cans to let their batter know if a stolen sign breaking ball was coming. It's crazy how much cheating was condoned back then. Glad players get significantly punished if they tried stuff like that 100 years later.
