So what happens when one year they inevitably lose a game in September during a
Stake conference weekend? Or just as long as you in particular are president, it will be all good? Do you think there's actually a correlation and is faith promoting or are you just being lighthearted?

For a while it was noticed that it seemed like every time my dad went to the temple on a BYU game day, BYU would lose. So my brother was like, can you please go on a different day:)? But then BYU won on a day he went to the temple so my bro was like, oh never mind, it was just a coincidence. Same applies with your example.

Sapiens are pattern seeking and superstitious individuals by nature. We love to look for things that back up our presuppositions. Relevant Radio the other day had a thing where people would call in about how their Rosary Beads help them in their everyday lives. It was so fascinating.

It reminded me of the Texas Sharpshooter Fallacy.
It's committed when ignoring the differences while focusing on the similarities, thus coming to an inaccurate conclusion.

It is related to the clustering illusion, which is the tendency in human cognition to interpret patterns where none actually exist. Similar to the gambler’s fallacy, it's an example of inserting meaning into randomness.

The name comes from a metaphor about a person from Texas who fires a gun at the side of a barn, then paints a shooting target centered on the tightest cluster of shots and claims to be a sharpshooter.

Count the hits, ignore the misses. Like in blessings, etc. Bless the flu to go away cuz we know it can/will go away naturally given time, meds, etc, but not to regrow a limb because we know that can't happen naturally (yet). Miami and Utah County hospitals have similar recovery rates for most all infirmaries, accidents, etc, despite a big difference in blessings given per capita in each community and despite conflicting beliefs and other differences.

(We do do better in areas where alcohol, tobacco, and elicit drugs make a difference in causing the problem and/or in recovery, which again is a good and sound naturalistic explanation.)

Just my 2 cents/how my brain thinks. Hopefully we are no respecter of persons on CB, ie not patial to, influenced by status, etc:)
