The males (drones) only purpose is to find an unmated queen during a swarm.
Every bee we encounter out foraging is a female. Almost all the bees inside the hive making comb/honey and feeding the queen are females.
Drones are slightly larger than the female bees and do not sting. If the food gets scarce the drones are forced out and die.
