in Kalanis first 5 seasons, BYU was ranked in 4 seasons. the highest ranking in each of those season for kalani was 20th, 8th, 10th, and 12th. edit* i was wrong too. those were from his first 7 years.
broncos was 25th, 18th, and 19th.
and sorry but comparing schedules in the 60s to a top 10 schedule is idiotic. BYU is the least talented P5 team in the country by quite a bit. based on talent BYU probably should’ve only won a couple games last year. even though broncos recruiting was better, he never overperformed his recruiting on the field like kalani has most of the time. that has made them basically equal overall.
the gap between G5 and P5 has grown a ton since bronco was at BYU as well. having a MWC budget does not work anymore. luckily BYU is putting a lot more money into it and cares about recruiting and it’s making progress.
Kalani has a higher ceiling and lower floor. but considering the first and likely toughest year in the big 12 he still won 5 games, i will absolutely take that over 6 or 7 wins every single year like it would be under bronco.
