All-American
The 1/100,000 seems way off.
That number would indicate less than 1 person in my town could do that and I see multiple people doing that at the gym regularly.

1/1000 is ridiculous. The average American man probably weighs close to 200ish

Most people can bench their body weight?
Skeptical Optimist
Aug 22, 3:26pm
Hmm, ok maybe I am overestimating people.
Durden
Aug 22, 3:28pm
Most people can't do that on average or even close to average

I go everyday. Maybe that’s my bias is that people at the gym seem to generally
Durden

I go 4-5 times per week. I’d bet that in the gym community it’s not 1-20 people

really? I feel like its 1 in 5 or 10 (I do feel like there are a lot of younger

I have a membership at anytime fitness and Vasa. Vasa isn’t even close to 1/20.

Probably depends on what gym you go to

I meant it generally, including your cross fitters

I don’t think an untrained person can bench their body weight.

Not even close.

Even in this poll, I’m sure a lot of the yes answers are guys who don’t lift but believe they’re pretty strong so
JollyGreenGiant
Aug 22, 3:34pm
Exactly. I doubt almost half of CB can bench that much.

Just because you can’t do it doesn’t mean others can’t

They'd probably bounce the weight off their chest anyway.

If you haven’t recently actually benched 225 you can’t bench 225
DanSmith
Aug 22, 3:39pm
Define recently. There are times where I will go 6 months or more without

Not true. I hadn't lifted in over a year. To test your theory I just went down

I just cold benched 225 50 times in my basement setup. Pretty easy.

I wonder how many in this poll benched 225 within the last month

Id say 315 amongst the general population is prob 1/10K, but those that lift

If you base the general population stats on what you observe on the gym,

I just googled the numbers, not vouching for their accuracy. Could for sure be MSM misinformation, who knows.

Im not saying it's a crazy number, but I do not think that any larger man can focus for a few months and get 315 up.
RoaroftheCougartails
Aug 23, 9:24am
That would be more than 150% of my body weight.

I weigh 190lb and can bench 315lb.
