I got quoted around $6500 to have mine replaced back in Dec, so $1250
doesn't sound so bad. At $6500, I said "screw that" and did it myself in a day for about $1200. The water heater cost me about $900, though. I went for a midgrade water heater. $5,000 for what would have taken them 4 hours is crazy to me.

So your situation sounds pretty reasonable. They are basically covering their costs.
