The GoR will be gone. The GoR explicitly states it is related to the ESPN agreements. If there is no agreement after 2027 there is no GoR. It would require a new media deal with someone else to get more money because ESPN isn’t paying more than what it can get by exercising the option. If ESPN is a partner, it means it will pay even less. The big brands aren’t signing a new GoR for that. It is unlikely there will be a new partner considering Fox, CBS, and NBC have their inventory needs set till 2031. I doubt TNT is paying a premium now that it is matching Amazon’s NBA offer.
ESPN’s Chris Low reported on Finebaum the SEC wants UNC and UVA. They know it and will not stick around if they are free. FSU and Clemson know the Big 12 will pay them more even if the B1G and SEC don’t come calling, so they won’t stick around. At least 8 schools have a home in the Big 12 or SEC. ND might capitulate to the B1G and take Stanford or Miami with it.
In all, at least 10 members have landing spots and could vote to dissolve under NC statute and the exit fees go away.
