Similar thing happened to my grandma.
My mom had someone reach out to her that said, “hey I think I’m your aunt.” My mom has never heard of or spoken to this person before.

This lady had found my mom through the DNA tests and Ancestry.

My grandma is the middle child of 5. It turns out, when my great-grandpa had gone to serve in a war, my great-grandma had gotten pregnant around the same time. She had moved to her home town and had met up with an old fling. When great-grandpa came home, they had two more children.

No one knew anything for 70 years. Except my great grandma. As my mom started to put the pieces together, it all made sense. My grandma was so different from her other four siblings. They had always called her the “quirky one.” Many of the genetic disorders that showed up in my mom, her siblings, and my grandma that had always seemed to be random actually stemmed from this other guy who was actually my grandma’s dad.

My mom and one of her sisters got together and showed my grandma step-by-step what the DNA results showed and what ancestry showed. My grandma was logical about it and took it in stride. Her biological father was long dead, and he wasn’t much of a role model in this life, so she wasn’t too worried about it. My grandma’s sisters had a much harder time accepting what had happened. They didn’t bring it up with my grandma’s parents. Her mom was very old and her “dad” had dementia so there wasn’t much of a point. We knew all the information and didn’t really need anything else.

Just really interesting to see all the pieces come together.
