Basically Spencer Linton said something on his show
BYU SportsNation tweeted out an out of context clip that misrepresented what he said
Josh Newman retweeted it with a caption that "this fanbase stinks out loud"
BYU SportsNation Twitter deleted the clip (including from the watch on demand version of the show)

There wasn't anything too bad on Newman's retweet, but can't speak to what there was on the deleted tweet or in his DMs.
I don't think anyone knew something was off until a Utah fan today said he enjoyed Spencer Linton's discomfort this off-season and Spencer Linton asked if he really supports Utah fans harassing him (edited my post here from previously saying they sending him death threats, turns out that wasn't the case, just general harassment)

That post from Linton is what made people aware something was going on...but still don't know what was said by Linton or eventually to Linton.

And to be clear, the content of the clip really doesn't matter. No matter what he said, it obviously wouldn't justify that
